Granola Topper Smoothie Bowl

If you know me at all, you'll know that I'm obsessed with smoothie bowls! I whip up one of these bad boys every day for breakfast. Usually berry flavoured to get those antioxidants, but sometimes I do like to switch up the flavours. The key is to always use frozen bananas; that's where you get the texture from! Sometimes I add either mango, strawberries, or even spinach! And if my sweet tooth has taken over, I'll throw in a second banana and add cocoa powder or chocolate protein powder for a chocolate nut butter bowl like I've done today! The possibilities are endless!

Prep Time: 5min  Total Time:  5min Servings: 1 Bowl


  • 2 Frozen Bananas 
  • 1 Cup Frozen Berries
  • 1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder (Substitute with regular protein powder & 2 tablespoons cocoa powder)
  • 3/4 Cup Almond Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Granola (I used Central Roast)
  • 1 Tablespoon Coconut
  • 1 Tablespoon Almond Butter


Step 1: Blend bananas, protein powder, and almond milk until smooth. Add ice cubes and blend until smooth. Pour into a bowl.

Step 2: Top bowl with granola, coconut, and almond butter (and any other desired toppers).

11 Morning Rituals That Can Change Your Life: A Follow Up

I have NEVER considered myself a morning person. I can even remember being in elementary school, and my mother having to come into my room to wake me up countless times each morning (that poor woman). Over the years I've tried adding different techniques to my morning routine, in hopes of easing the transition of starting my day. Recently I stumbled upon an old blog post I read back in university; which was a detailed list of morning rituals to improve your wake up routine. And surprisingly, some of these tools, I still use today! I'm sure I'm not the only one to make promises to myself about the lifestyle changes I'm going to make, and then struggle to follow through. Which is why it was such a good feeling to reread this article, and give myself a pat on the back for allowing some of these changes to stick! The post is linked below, but here are some rituals that really worked for me!

1.Drinking Warm Lemon Water


I often drink 0.5-1 cup of water before breakfast, then a cup of warm lemon water once I get to work to help with digestion. I'm sure it would be most ideal to have warm lemon water before breakfast, but this is most convenient with my schedule, as hot water and lemon is readily available for me at work. It also helps sooth my stomach once I've eaten.


2. Wake Up Earlier

I used to leave myself with just enough time to get ready and head out the door. But now, I tend to give myself an extra hour, allowing myself to ease into my day, relax, and find some peace of mind before heading to work.

3. Scrape Your Tongue

This may sound odd but it makes a world of a difference. I mostly do this before bed but both are beneficial. Scraping your tongue removes lingering germs, bad breath, and just gives you a fresher start. Believe me, once you add this to your routine, you won't want to give it up!

4. Uplifting Music


If you have any sort of commute in the morning, that is prime time for some feel good beats. I always play my favourite tunes on my way to work - it puts me in a good mood, and makes the commute worthwhile. I'm not opposed to the radio, but I don't think it's necessary to flood your brain with news first thing in the morning.

5. Breakfast Smoothie

The blog post below specifies a GREEN smoothie in the morning, but I like to switch it up. I enjoy a smoothie bowl almost every morning, which changes from kale, to banana, to berries, to mangos, etc! I find the cold temperature is easy on the stomach (if you experience any inflammation).

6. Top Three


Coming up with 3 goals for the day - it's so simple but it makes a world of a difference. I don't do this every day but it definitely helps whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed with life. If you have a list of things that need to get done, prioritize, and then pick 3! ONLY THREE! When you get those done, you can allow yourself to feel accomplished. Anything more is just a bonus!

My blogging inspiration began with a smoothie bowl! While I was transitioning into veganism, finding a nutritious breakfast option was tough, when I was such a fan of healthy egg variations.
